Method :
Cooking an Up-pha-lum is simple and can be done in three delicious ways depending on your preference:
- Deep-Frying (My personal favorite):
- Heat oil in a deep pan or vessel on medium-high heat.
- Once the oil is hot, gently slide the Up-pha-lum in.
- Lightly press it down with a spatula.
- It will puff up quickly! Press the edges to ensure it cooks evenly.
- Once golden and crispy, remove from the oil and drain on a paper towel.
- Microwaving:
- Place the Up-pha-lum on a microwave-safe plate.
- For extra crispiness, optionally brush with water or a little oil.
- Microwave on high for 20-60 seconds (depending on your microwave’s power) until it puffs up and turns crispy.
- Baking:
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Optionally, brush the Up-pha-lum with water or oil for added texture.
- Place it on a baking sheet and bake for 1-5 minutes, or until it crisps up.
Tip: Always store your Up-pha-lums in an airtight container between kitchen tissues, or enjoy them immediately for the best flavour and crunch!
